Free Fire India is finally live on Android and iOS, and most returning players have the same worry: what happens to the old account? Garena launched Free Fire India on October 28, 2026, more than four years after the original game was blocked in India. It is a separate app, not an update to Free Fire MAX, so it has to be installed on its own. How Does Free Fire India Account Migration Work?

Garena has said that player data was moved to servers in India and nothing was deleted along the way. In practice, migration is not a button you press. You install Free Fire India and log in with the same platform your account is already bound to, such as Google, Facebook, or X. Launch reports say your level, avatar, gun skins, and diamonds load right back in when you do this.

Garena’s head of operations in India, Vaibhav Das Mundhra, told in an interview that the same account works in both Free Fire India and Free Fire MAX, and that players on both apps can team up and join the same events. At the same time, the official Free Fire India support FAQ adds region checks, so you may run into one of these three messages:

• New Account Blocked: The game says your registration is detected as India. This shows up when you try to create a new account from India on an app that is not Free Fire India. Install Free Fire India instead.
• India Account Detected: You tried to open an India region account in Free Fire or Free Fire MAX. Download Free Fire India and log in there with the same platform.
• Not an India Account: Free Fire India only accepts India region accounts. Accounts from other regions should keep using Free Fire MAX on Android or Free Fire on iOS.

If the game points you to Free Fire India, follow it, and always log in with the exact platform your account was bound to. Logging in with a different Google or Facebook ID only creates a fresh, empty account. One thing that may not come along is your control setup. Garena has not confirmed that sensitivity values and custom HUD layouts sync from Free Fire MAX, so save them yourself before you switch.

Free Fire India Apple ID Warning for iPhone Players

iPhone players need to be extra careful here. According to Garena’s FAQ, logging in to Free Fire India with the same Apple ID you use on Free Fire MAX does not open your old account. It creates a brand new Free Fire India account instead. This happens because the two apps sit under different Apple developer accounts, so Apple treats your single Apple ID as two separate logins.

Your Free Fire MAX account stays untouched, but your old progress will not show up in Free Fire India. Garena’s advice is to bind a recovery email to your existing account and switch your main login to that email before opening Free Fire India, if the option is available to you. Then use that email to reach your old account in Free Fire India instead of tapping the Apple button. If you already landed on a new empty account, do not treat it as your main one, and avoid spending diamonds or real money on it.

How to Protect a Guest Account Before Moving to Free Fire India

Guest accounts are the riskiest part of the whole switch. A guest account lives in the game data on your phone, and Garena’s support page clearly states that a lost guest account cannot be recovered once the device is lost or the game data is deleted.

So before you touch Free Fire India, open Free Fire MAX on the same phone, go to Settings, find the Account section, and bind the guest account to a Google or Facebook ID you plan to keep for years. Garena does not allow unbinding later, so pick carefully. Do not clear app data or uninstall Free Fire MAX until the bind is done. Free Fire India even has a Bind your account event in its Activities tab, which shows Garena wants every player linked early.

While you are in Settings, bind a recovery email too. If you ever lose access to your Google or Facebook ID, the Account Recovery button on the login page lets you use that email to link your account to a new platform.

Free Fire India Launch Checklist: What to Do Before You Download

Run through this Free Fire India launch checklist before installing the new app. It takes about ten minutes and saves a lot of headaches later.

• Note Your UID: Take a screenshot of your profile with your player name and UID visible
• Check Your Login Platform: Confirm whether your account is bound to Google, Facebook, X, or Apple ID
• Bind Guest Accounts: Link any guest account to a platform you will keep
• Add a Recovery Email: This matters most for iPhone players who use Apple ID
• Save Your Sensitivity: Screenshot every sensitivity slider in Free Fire MAX
