A Beginner's Guide to Injustice Gods Among Us

Injustice: Gods Among Us is a free-to-play collectible card and combat game developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. Available on both iOS and Android, the game puts you in control of iconic DC Comics heroes and villains in touch-based 3-on-3 combat. If you are just starting out and want to understand the systems that drive your progress, this guide walks you through the core mechanics and smart early decisions that set a strong foundation.
Understanding the Card System
Every character in Injustice: Gods Among Us is represented by a collectible card with two key stats: Damage and Health. Damage determines how hard a character hits, while Health determines how much punishment they can absorb before being knocked out. Cards come in three rarity tiers: Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Gold cards carry the highest base stats by a significant margin, followed by Silver, with Bronze being the entry-level tier you will receive at the start of the game.
Each character also has a Passive Ability, which is a unique effect that activates automatically during battle. These passives vary widely across characters and can include effects like starting fights with extra power bars, applying status effects, boosting teammates, or regenerating health. Understanding which passives a character has is just as important as reading their base stats, because a strong passive can make a mid-stat character outperform a higher-stat character with a weaker one.

Starting Your Roster
When you begin playing, the game provides three random Bronze characters. These are sufficient to complete the tutorial and early standard battles, but they will be replaced over time as you acquire Silver and Gold cards. Your first goal should be to earn enough Power Credits to purchase a Silver character from the Add Characters section of the Store. Based on verified store prices, Insurgency Lex Luthor at 46,000 credits and Regime Nightwing at 42,000 credits are two of the most cost-efficient Silver picks for newer players.
Once you have a Silver character to anchor your team, begin saving toward your first Gold card purchase. Gold characters in the Store range from around 130,000 to 375,000 Power Credits depending on the variant, and spending your savings on a high-stat Gold card rather than multiple weak Silver ones will accelerate your progress considerably. Completing Challenge Mode battles, which rotate on a regular schedule, can also award exclusive Gold characters that are not available through standard Store purchases.

Mastering Combat Controls
Battles in Injustice: Gods Among Us play out in real time using swipe and tap gestures. Tapping the right side of the screen performs a light combo, while swiping delivers a heavy combo that deals more damage per hit. Your three characters are shown as portrait icons on the left side of the screen during a fight, and you can tag in a different character at any time by tapping their portrait. When your power bar fills, you can activate Special Attacks by tapping the corresponding icons at the bottom of the screen.
A critical rule for new players is that most Special Attacks will miss entirely if the opponent is knocked down or has been pushed backward by a combo. Always wait for the enemy to return to a standing position before activating a Special. Special 2, unlocked at character level 5, normally deals three times the damage of Special 1 and is roughly 50 percent more power-efficient. Super Moves require three full power bars and are completely unblockable, making them ideal for finishing off a weakened enemy quickly.

Earning and Managing Power Credits
Power Credits are the main currency in Injustice: Gods Among Us and are earned after every battle across all modes. The tutorial awards 730 credits on first completion, and daily login rewards begin with 2,000 credits on your first day. Logging in every 10 days yields a random Bronze or Silver character card as a milestone reward, and reaching 80 consecutive login days provides a free Gold Joker/Insurgency card.
For regular grinding, Bonus Battle 6 is widely regarded as the most efficient early credit source due to its balance of payout and manageable difficulty. Avoid spending credits on low-value Bronze cards from the Store when you are saving for Silver or Gold purchases. Key credit investments to prioritize early include unlocking the second gear slot for your main characters at 20,000 credits each, upgrading Special attacks on your Gold cards, and building toward your first Gold character purchase or Booster Pack.

Exploring the Game Modes
Standard Battle is the main progression path in Injustice: Gods Among Us, organized into numbered battles across multiple areas. Clearing battles earns Power Credits, character XP, and occasional card rewards. The early areas are manageable with Bronze and Silver cards, but from Area 7 onward, having Gold characters and equipped gear becomes increasingly important. Challenge Mode rotates on a schedule and lets you earn exclusive Gold characters by clearing a specific series of fights within a limited time window.
Online Battle requires a linked WBID account and lets you compete against other players’ teams for seasonal rewards including gear and Nth Metal. Even finishing at a low rank each season earns meaningful rewards, so participating weekly is strongly recommended. Survivor Mode is a separate daily mode where you assemble a team and fight a series of increasingly difficult opponents with carry-over health between rounds. It is one of the best sources for gear cards and Augment Cards in the game and can be played once for free each day.

Leveling Up and Promoting Characters
Characters gain XP after every battle and level up over time, which increases their base Damage and Health stats. Promoting a character by combining duplicate copies of the same card raises their maximum level cap and grants a notable stat boost at each Elite stage. Because Promotion requires duplicates, it is far more efficient to concentrate your credits on acquiring multiple copies of one or two Gold characters than to spread resources across a large collection of different cards.
Focus your experience and Promotion materials on the Gold characters you plan to use long term. A Gold card that has been Promoted several times will have substantially higher Damage and Health than an un-Promoted version of the same card, and that difference compounds further when gear is equipped on top of the stat boost.

Gear and S.T.A.R. Labs Augments
Each character in Injustice: Gods Among Us can equip up to three gear pieces. The first slot is unlocked for free at character level 5, while the second and third slots cost 20,000 and 40,000 Power Credits respectively per character. Gear can add passive combat effects including power drain, stun chance, damage boosts, and health increases, and a well-equipped character can outperform an unequipped character with higher base stats. Gear is earned through Online Battle season rewards, Survivor Mode’s prize wheel, and the Gear Locker in the Store.
S.T.A.R. Labs in the mobile game is a permanent stat upgrade system accessed through the Collection and Store menu. You redeem Augment Cards here to permanently increase stats for a specific character or all versions of a character, such as adding a flat Health or Damage percentage. Augment Cards are earned primarily through Survivor Mode and represent a long-term investment that compounds as you continue using the same core characters.

Injustice: Gods Among Us rewards players who invest carefully in a focused roster, engage with every available mode, and use their Power Credits efficiently rather than spending on characters they will quickly outgrow. By following the steps in this guide, building toward Gold characters through saving and Challenge Mode, and staying active in Survivor and Online Battle, you will build a strong and competitive team over time.
