Monster Hunter Outlanders launches globally on October 29, 2026 for iOS and Android, and like every game in the series, it is built around hunting large monsters. The roster mixes returning favorites such as Rathalos and Diablos with Radiant Species found only on the island of Aesoland, and it is headlined by Ruger Aidal, the game’s first original Elder Dragon. This guide covers every monster confirmed through official material and closed beta tests, explains what makes Radiant Species different, and shares what hands-on reports have revealed about Ruger Aidal. Details may change after launch.

How Hunting Works in Monster Hunter Outlanders

Outlanders follows the series’ familiar loop. You track a large monster across Aesoland, defeat it, and turn the materials it leaves behind into stronger weapons and armor, which in turn let you take on tougher targets. Developers said at Tokyo Game Show 2026 that dozens of returning monsters were already in the game as of the third closed beta, with more planned after launch, and that the monster ecology draws on the original series.

A few combat systems shape how every fight plays out. Hands-on reports from Tokyo Game Show describe a lock-on that opens a radial menu for targeting a specific part, such as the head, either wing, the forelegs, the hind legs, or the tail. Selecting a part does not land hits for you, so you still need to reposition. Monsters also glow red before certain attacks to warn you of what is coming, although one reviewer noted that for some aerial attacks the warning appeared while the monster was still on the ground. In multiplayer, the developers described Co-op Skills that stagger a targeted part, and if teammates follow up on that part within the timing window, the monster is knocked into a heavy topple.

Returning Monsters

Rathalos

Rathalos is the face of the series and returns in its classic role. The official site calls it the apex monster of the forests, also known as the King of the Skies, and describes it as a terrible wyvern that descends upon invaders, attacking with poison claws and fiery breath. Its Azure Rathalos subspecies also appears in the Tokyo Game Show 2026 trailer, fighting the main Adventurer.

Rathian and Pink Rathian

Rathian, the female counterpart of Rathalos, is confirmed along with its Pink Rathian subspecies. The official site describes Pink Rathian as a subspecies with vibrant pink scales that wields its toxic tail more deftly than a normal Rathian, weakening prey with poison before moving in for the kill. Expect poison to be a recurring threat whenever you hunt this family of wyverns.

Other Returning Monsters

Many more familiar monsters have appeared in trailers and closed beta tests:

  • Diablos, Anjanath, Barroth, and Pukei-Pukei, each also shown with a Radiant form.
  • Kulu-Ya-Ku, which appears on the official site in its Radiant form.
  • Paolumu, Great Jagras, and Tobi-Kadachi, listed among the monsters in the second closed beta.
  • Legiana, shown in the Tokyo Game Show 2025 trailer.
  • Odogaron, hunted in the Rotfall Abyss in the Tokyo Game Show 2026 demo.
  • Great Girros, shown being hunted by the Adventurer Haze in the Tokyo Game Show 2026 trailer.

In the mainline games, these monsters are known for distinct traits that their Radiant forms build on. Diablos is an armored, horned Flying Wyvern that is fiercely territorial despite being a herbivore, and it burrows underground to ambush intruders. Anjanath is a predatory Brute Wyvern with powerful jaws, a keen sense of smell, and fire breath. Barroth is covered in rock-like plates and turns highly territorial when disturbed, while Pukei-Pukei poisons enemies with its tongue and tail. How closely each one matches its mainline behavior in Outlanders will become clear after launch.

Returning Elder Dragons

Two returning Elder Dragons have been confirmed so far. Garena’s gamescom 2026 announcement named Kushala Daora among the iconic series monsters appearing in Outlanders. In the mainline games, Kushala Daora is a metal-skinned Elder Dragon that controls wind, so expect a fight that tests your positioning.

Nergigante, the Elder Dragon known in the series for its regrowing spikes, was the focus of the “Nergigante Approaches” event during the third closed beta. Neither dragon has been shown with a Radiant form, and how they behave in Outlanders will become clearer once the game is live.

Radiant Species

Radiant Species are the game’s signature addition to the series. The official site describes them as Radiantite-corrupted monsters unique to Aesoland, and Radiantite is a mineral found on the island. According to the developers, Radiant versions have altered visuals, movement, and certain attack animations, and they are tougher than their standard forms. Closed beta announcements also explained that Radiant monsters can become frenzied during a hunt, gaining new movesets that raise the challenge even for experienced players.

Radiant Rathalos

The official site describes Radiant Rathalos as a Radiantite-corrupted Flying Wyvern capable of breathing near-molten flames. As absolute sovereigns of their domains, these monsters deliver catastrophic punishment to anyone who dares challenge their authority.

Radiant Rathian

Radiant Rathian gains drastically enhanced mobility and more developed venom glands, and the official site says it employs diverse methods to inject venom into its prey. Prepare for poison to arrive from more directions than in a standard Rathian hunt.

Radiant Anjanath

Radiant Anjanath is a Brute Wyvern that breathes more powerful flames than its standard form. According to the official site, it also violently excavates Radiantite from the ground with its jaws and hurls it at foes, giving it a ranged threat that ordinary Anjanath lacks.

Radiant Diablos

Radiant Diablos has reinforced horns that can easily pulverize surrounding rocks. The official site states that for these monsters, no underground obstacle remains standing, which suggests its burrowing charges will be even harder to avoid.

Radiant Kulu-Ya-Ku

Radiant Kulu-Ya-Ku is a Bird Wyvern with significantly enhanced foreleg strength. The official site says it can keenly detect Radiantite buried underground and excavate it for use as a weapon, turning a monster known for carrying objects into one that arms itself with crystal.

Ruger Aidal, the Original Elder Dragon

Ruger Aidal is the flagship monster of Monster Hunter Outlanders and the game’s first original Elder Dragon, unveiled at gamescom 2026. Garena’s announcement described its presence as comparable to the sun and said sightings of it are extremely rare, while the official store description pictures it descending like a blazing sun. The same announcement tied its glow to the transformation of monsters into Radiant Species. The developers have said its full background will be revealed at launch.

Hands-on coverage from Tokyo Game Show 2026 describes Ruger Aidal as a Radiant Elder Dragon covered in what appears to be golden scale armor, and it revealed two of its signature attacks. Its wingarm spear attack causes an instant faint if it hits, but a well-timed counter shatters the crystal spear and inflicts a major flinch. Its sky charge sees it gather energy in the air, and if the party does not deal enough damage to interrupt it in time, the attack wipes out the whole team. Coverage has also noted that it can create a sun and detonate it near players. Treat Ruger Aidal as a long-term goal that needs strong gear and a coordinated party.

Where Monsters Live and How to Farm Them

Aesoland is divided into regions with their own climate and terrain, and the developers revealed four locales at Tokyo Game Show 2026, with more to come. Closed beta announcements highlighted the Giantwood Locale, known for its towering peaks, and the Searing Plains, a stretch of sun-scorched wastes. The Tokyo Game Show 2026 demo took players into the Rotfall Abyss to hunt Odogaron. Knowing which region a monster calls home will matter once full monster locations are published at launch.

Because gear progression depends on monster materials, you will hunt many monsters more than once. The developers described a Quick Hunt feature as a convenience for collecting routine upgrade materials outside of core equipment crafting, which should cut down on repetitive hunts. For players who enjoy speed, closed beta builds also included guilds of up to forty players competing in weekly speedrun challenges for the fastest clear times and ranking points.

Tips for Hunting Monsters

Official weakness data for Outlanders has not been published yet, so these tips focus on what has been confirmed about how monsters behave:

  • Watch for the red glow that warns of certain attacks, and dodge or guard instead of committing to a combo.
  • Use lock-on to focus a single part, then reposition so your hits actually land on it.
  • Prepare for poison when hunting Rathian, Pink Rathian, and Rathalos.
  • Upgrade your gear before taking on Radiant monsters, since they can turn frenzied mid-hunt.
  • Save burst damage for Ruger Aidal’s sky charge, which must be interrupted before it lands.
  • In co-op, follow up on a teammate’s Co-op Skill to knock the monster into a heavy topple.
