Slime Rancher Map Guide - Each Location Explained

Slime Rancher is coming to mobile, and this game (which has been offering PC players an enjoyable experience for a very long time) is now bringing the same fun and excitement of exploration to mobile players as well. For smoother gameplay and high-quality graphics, you can play it on your PC with BlueStacks, just as you always have. However, once you start your adventure, you’ll notice that the game features a very large map, and figuring out where everything is without a guide will take quite a while. To help you avoid wasting time and ensure a more efficient experience, we’ve put together this guide.
| IMPORTANT | At the time this guide was written, the game was still in the testing phase, and some content may change by the time it is released. We don’t expect this to happen, but if it does, we will update the guide accordingly. |
General Information About the Slime Rancher Map
The game takes place on a planet called “Far, Far Range”, and the map is essentially divided into two regions: The Ranch and The Wilderness. Each region contains a series of sub-regions, and each of these offers different resources to collect, new slimes, food, and things to discover. When you start the game, you’ll see that the map is completely empty. By discovering and activating a total of 5 map nodes, you can start using the map for real and see what it contains. You can see the locations of these nodes in the image below (taken from MapGenie):

The Ranch
This is your main base: you’ll start the game here, and the buildings you’ll use are also constructed here. It contains two treasure pods that you can collect, and nothing else. The Ranch is divided into the sub-areas listed below, and you’ll need to purchase them using a certain amount of “newbucks” to unlock them.
| HOW TO GET NEWBUCKS | You can earn Newbucks by selling your Plorts (which are a resource produced by your slimes) at the market. You can also collect small amounts from chests on the map. Newbucks is the currency you need to use to build your structures in The Ranch too, and this should be your priority: before unlocking a sub-region, make sure you’ve built and upgraded all the necessary structures on the Ranch. |
The Grotto
This area is designed as a cave where no sunlight enters and contains only one treasure pod. This should be the first sub-region you open. You can store light-sensitive slimes here, and there’s no need to fence them in: the cave’s natural barriers are sufficient to keep them inside.
| HOW TO GET THERE | Access through the Ranch |
| COST | 1,795 Newbucks |
| UNIQUE RESOURCES | None |
| IDEAL TYPE OF SLIME FOR STORAGE | Pink and Phosphor Slimes |

The Overgrowth
This is an area covered in moss and is primarily used for gathering fruit and food. You can also find wild chickens here. We can say that this is the best area for stocking free-roaming slimes like Dervish.
| HOW TO GET THERE | Access through the Ranch |
| COST | 1,795 Newbucks |
| UNIQUE RESOURCES | Pogofruit, Carrot, Hen_Hen |
| IDEAL TYPE OF SLIME FOR STORAGE | Dervish Slimes |
The Lab
This area is designed to allow you to produce the gadgets needed for Slime Science. You can gather the resources required to produce gadgets by storing Tangle Slimes, but if you plan to store multiple slimes together, make sure you don’t trigger an outbreak (for example, don’t store Tangle and Dervish Slimes near each other).
| HOW TO GET THERE | Access through the Ranch or Grotto |
| COST | 10,000 Newbucks |
| UNIQUE RESOURCES | None |
| IDEAL TYPE OF SLIME FOR STORAGE | Tangle Slimes |

The Docks
As you might guess from the name, you can use this area to collect water and farm Puddle slime. There’s also a Slime Toy you can collect in the pond at the entrance.
| HOW TO GET THERE | Access through the Overgrowth |
| COST | 5,000 Newbucks |
| UNIQUE RESOURCES | Water |
| IDEAL TYPE OF SLIME FOR STORAGE | Puddle Slimes |
Ogden’s Retreat
When you purchase Overgrowth, you also gain free access to this area. There isn’t an ideal type of slime to store here, so we recommend using this area to collect resources and spicy tofu. You can also purchase various building upgrades from Ogden Ortiz here.
| HOW TO GET THERE | Use the teleporter in the Overgrowth |
| COST | None |
| UNIQUE RESOURCES | Carrot, Pogofruit, Spicy Tofu |
| IDEAL TYPE OF SLIME FOR STORAGE | None |
Mochi’s Manor
When you purchase The Grotto, you also gain free access to this area. Just like Ogden’s Retreat, you should primarily use this location to interact with an NPC named Mochi Miles and purchase upgrades from him.
| HOW TO GET THERE | Use the teleporter in the Grotto |
| COST | None |
| UNIQUE RESOURCES | Water |
| IDEAL TYPE OF SLIME FOR STORAGE | None |

Viktor’s Workshop

| IDEAL TYPE OF SLIME FOR STORAGE | Phosphor and Mosaic Slimes |
The Wilderness
The Wilderness is divided into the following subregions:
The Slime Sea
This is the name of the ocean that surrounds the planet. You can reach it from different areas, but there’s nothing you can do there. You can’t store any slime, and if you touch the ocean, you’ll be automatically teleported back to The Ranch. Aside from two treasure pods, you won’t find anything here.
| HOW TO GET THERE | Anywhere that connects to the sea |
| COST | None |
| UNIQUE RESOURCES | None |
| IDEAL TYPE OF SLIME FOR STORAGE | None |
The Dry Reef
There are no plots in this area, so you can’t use it to store slimes. However, you can collect Pink, Tabby, and Rock Slimes, and you’ll find plenty of natural resources here.
| HOW TO GET THERE | Access through the Ranch |
| COST | None |
| UNIQUE RESOURCES | Deep Brine, Cuberry, Heart Beet, Wild Chickens |

The Indigo Quarry

| COST | 1 Slime Key |
| UNIQUE RESOURCES | Crystal Slime, Rad Slime, Oca_Oca, Odd Onion, Indigonium |
